Electrical steel

Driving the future

Electrical steel, also known as silicon steel, is a special steel tailored to achieve specific magnetic properties. It is used for high-end applications, such as e-vehicle or windmill motors, energy generators or power transformers, but its high silicon content makes it extremely sensitive to manufacturing.

LIFE-CHANGING TECHNOLOGY

With more than 90 references worldwide, Fives is your technology provider for a full range of electrical steel grades: NGO, GO and HiB

Our know-how and proprietary technologies are capable of producing high flux density materials with minimum core losses at high frequencies.

NON-GRAIN ORIENTED STEEL

Non-grain oriented (NGO) steel with high-efficiency magnetic properties and low iron loss involves a combination of process:

Fives' technology achieving record performances:

  • Strip temperature: up to 1,100 °C
  • Process speed: 200 mpm
  • H2 atmosphere: up to 100%
  • 0.1 mm rolling thickness on full width

GRAIN ORIENTED STEEL

The production of grain oriented (GO) steel has an extremely high capital cost per tonne and requires complex manufacturing and technology:

  • Annealing & Pickling Line (APL)
  • Cold Rolling Mill (CRM)
  • Decarburizing & Coating Line (DCL)
  • Flattening & Coating Line (FCL)

Fives' technology achieving record performances:

  • Strip temperature: up to 1,100 °C
  • Process speed: 160 mpm
  • H2 atmosphere: up to 75%
