DMS 20HI

COLD ROLLING MILL

As a world leader with more than 80 references over 60 years, our DMS 20Hi cold rolling mills go beyond expectations to process stainless or silicon steels with ultimate surface quality standards. We’re also proud to announce a world first - a GIGA steel mill for ultra-advanced high-strength steel for the automotive industry. Now available with a roll change robot.

PRECISION STAINLESS STEEL MILLS

High-end applications

Delivering world records for strip thickness, width and rolling speed, and benefits from advanced flatness control and better cooling, the DMS 20Hi cold rolling mill offers:

  • Minimum strip thickness: below 30 microns
  • Maximum strip width: 1,880 mm
  • Maximum rolling speed: 1,200 mpm

World's first

How thin can you roll ultra high-strength steel grades?

This is the challenge put by the automotive industry, and recently met by POSCO with expertise from Fives. POSCO has been developing its GIGA steel for automotive applications since 2016. GIGA steel has the highest tensile strength (2,000 MPa) and excellent formability. It is able to produce complex auto parts without any special processing and meets very stringent safety standards.

Fives pursued a unique approach - to use a similar process to stainless steel cold rolling. We designed a robust monobloc - DMS 20Hi EcoMill - for thin GIGA steel with the following results:

  • Steel thickness: 0.5 mm - 2.5 mm
  • Strip width: 800 mm - 1,650 mm
  • Production capacity: 180,000 tonnes per year

DMS 20HI ECO-MILL

Improved design

The improved features for DMS 20Hi EcoMill include increased rolling speed, new design of strip and work roll spraying, new strip wipers, improvements for fume exhaust, and a cutting-edge concept for flatness actuators and mandrel greasing.

Benefits

  • 10% increase in productivity
  • Less energy consumption
  • Less maintenance
  • Ease of operation
  • Overall reduced environmental impact
