Marcegaglia entrusts Fives with a new digital upgrade
The company aims to further automate the processing of both hot‑rolled and cold‑rolled stainless steel to efficiently handle a wide range of steel grades and strip sizes.
Optimized thermal process control
At the core of the contract is the deployment of Virtuo™‑L, a digital solution developed by the Steel Digital Factory at Fives. The software will automatically optimize thermal process control and improve temperature transitions, while reducing fuel consumption. It will also allow the company to start collecting data, laying the groundwork for continuous performance improvements.
Market-proven solutions
This new contract demonstrates the increasing confidence of steelmakers in digitalizing their plants with Fives’ solutions to significantly enhance performance.
At its Ravenna carbon steel plant, Marcegaglia has already installed SmartLine™, an automatic control system with metallurgical models for strip processing lines, on four galvanizing lines. This was followed by the deployment of Eyeron® from the pickling line and cold rolling mills to the galvanizing lines, with full completion expected by the end of 2026.
