Digitalizing steelmaking processes at Future Steel Forum 2026
Hosted by Steel Times International, the Future Steel Forum is a key conference focused on shaping the future of steel production, with a strong emphasis on digitalization, sustainability, and innovation. More about the Future Steel Forum.
Digital transformation in steel: two Italian success stories
During the conference, Maxime Monnoyer, Technical Sales Manager, Steel Digital Factory at Fives, will present two concrete examples of digital transformation in Italian steel plants. He will demonstrate how close collaboration between quality, production, and process teams, combined with advanced digital solutions, can significantly enhance plant performance.
The first case study focuses on Eyeron®, our intelligent quality management solution, deployed at Arvedi AST’s stainless steel plant in Terni. The system now covers more than 20 processes, delivering real-time insights and improved quality control.
The second case highlights SmartLine™, an automatic control system for strip processing lines, implemented at Marcegaglia Ravenna across four galvanizing lines. This follows by the deployment of Eyeron®, from the pickling line and cold rolling mills through to the galvanizing lines, with full completion expected by September 2026.

Decarbonization and digitalization
Fives will also actively contribute to two panel discussions dedicated to decarbonization and digitalization in the steel industry.
Laurent Lesne, Director of Digital & Metallurgy Development and Operations, Steel Digital Factory at Fives, will share his perspective on the growing pressure steel producers face to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and achieve sustainability targets.
He will be one of the speakers in the panel discussion “Decarbonization and digitalization: How are we doing?” on June 4, 2026, at 12:25.
In addition, Fives will sponsor a roundtable session focused on how digital technologies are accelerating sustainable steel production.
