Fives supports Xinyu’s new electrical steel facility
The new facility will produce annually up to 250,000 metric tonnes of non-grain oriented (NGO) electrical steel. A major share of production will serve the electric vehicle sector, supporting the development of more efficient, higher-performance electric motors. The remaining capacity will supply industrial and power equipment markets.
Fives supported Xinyu by designing, supplying, and commissioning key process equipment for the facility, including the thermal section of Annealing and Coating Line (ACL N4) and cold rolling mills.
Advanced technologies for high-grade steel
For ACL N4, Fives provided its annealing technology, featuring proprietary low-emission burners, precise furnace atmosphere control, and compact rapid jet and mist cooling technology. These technologies enable stable, efficient processing while meeting the demanding quality requirements of high-grade electrical steel.
The facility is also equipped with DMS 20Hi EcoMill cold rolling technology from Fives. The cold rolling mills can process materials down to 0.1 mm and below, with thickness control accuracy of up to ±2μm. This level of precision ensures consistent product quality and supports the stringent performance requirements of electric motor manufacturers.
DMS 20Hi EcoMills delivered over eight years
The new facility further strengthens the long-term partnership between Fives and Xinyu. Over the past eight years, Fives has supplied five DMS 20Hi EcoMills to Xinyu.
The commissioning of the latest two mills highlights the close collaboration between the two companies. The fifth mill achieved its first coil just three months after the fourth cold rolling mill entered production.
“We are proud to have commissioned the mills on schedule, especially the last two, when we had to fine-tune the fourth mill while commissioning the fifth under a tight timeline. The outstanding commitment of everyone involved and the strong collaboration between the assembly and commissioning teams on both sides were key to this success,” says Patrick Baivier, Project Manager at Fives DMS, a Fives subsidiary, specializing in strip processing lines and cold rolling mills.
With the inauguration of the new facility, Xinyu is expanding its production capabilities in high-grade electrical steel and strengthening its position in the market for advanced materials for electric mobility and industrial applications. The project also demonstrates the value of Fives and Xinyu’s long-term cooperation, combining process expertise, advanced equipment, and close project collaboration.
