Cruz Azul raw meal grinding plants major milestones in Mexico

Fives is presently delivering two raw meal grinding plants in Hidalgo and Oaxaca Lagunas plants (Mexico) for Cooperativa La Cruz Azul. Let us come back to the scope of supply of these two major projects and highlight the main steps of their construction.

As part of the two projects to supply two separate raw meal grinding plants to Cooperativa La Cruz Azul S.C.L. in Mexico, Fives has achieved several major milestones in optimum safety conditions.

Oaxaca Lagunas plant:
Construction works started in August 2018. In October 2019, the onsite construction teams achieved more than 533 000 working hours without any accident. The progress in buildings construction and, more importantly, the very narrow space for installing this new plant, are limiting the available area for construction, especially for equipment handling and preassembly, making coactivity a key factor in the site organization. Mechanical erection of the raw materials feeding workshop and the FCB Horomill® grinding circuit started in July 2019. Electrical installation is currently under progress. The raw meal grinding workshop is scheduled to be operational by the end of March 2020.

Hidalgo plant:
Construction works started in December 2018. In October 2019, more than 340 000 working hours has been spent on site without any accident. Mechanical erection started at the end of August, electrical erection works will start in December. Today, civil works are nearly completed. First raw meal date is scheduled by the end of May 2020.

As a reminder, the orders were finalized in November 2017, with the signature of two contracts on a turnkey basis: one for the supply of a 280 tph grinding unit for the Cruz Azul Hidalgo plant, and the other for the supply of a 300 tph grinding unit to equip the Oaxaca Lagunas plant. Each raw grinding plant features an FCB Horomill® 4000 mm grinding mill, an FCB TSV™ Classifier 6500 mm and an FCB Aerodecantor.

The FCB Horomill® grinding circuit technology has been selected by Cruz Azul for its unique performance in terms of energy savings, reduced CO2 emission, low water consumption and high quality end-product.
