Change for Good: Fives impactful presence at Glasstec

The glass team embarked on a journey at Glasstec to help glassmakers change for good. During the event, we presented our green technology to our customers and partners that can help change the way they manufacture.

Glasstec, the premier event for the glass industry, opened its doors to over 32,000 visitors from 120 countries on October 22-25, 2024, in Dusseldorf, Germany with the motto “We are Glass.” 1,257 exhibitors at the biennial trade fair invited industry visitors to discover the entire spectrum of glass production, processing and products along the value chain from manufacturing to innovative technologies.

Fives stand of 60m2 was a hub for our customers, partners, suppliers, and academia. Our experts from Fives showcased our main technologies that are transforming glass manufacturing for a sustainable future.

“The glass sector has long been associated with energy-intensive and polluting practices, but it doesn’t have to be this way. We are very proud of our recent installations: an all-electric furnace at Verallia Cognac and a low-energy oxy-fuel combustion technology at Guardian, which have attracted a lot of interest,” says Alexandre Brusset, Vice President - Glass at Fives.

Watch our Change for Good film to learn about our green technologies:

  • Prium® E-Melt – all-electric technology. Deployed at Verallia, the all-electric furnace has achieved a 60% reduction in CO2 emissions. It’s the largest all-electric furnace for the glass packaging industry.
  • Prium® Eco-Flex – hybrid technology. This innovative technology will be installed for O-I’s Veauche plant in France and allow for a 70% replacement of fossil fuels and a 43% reduction in CO2 emissions. It will be the first air-gas hybrid furnace for glass packaging applications.
  • Prium® Oxy-Melt – oxy-fuel combustion. This low-energy furnace was recently commissioned at Guardian Glass’ plant in Bascharage, Luxembourg. Over time, the technology should reduce the furnace’s gas consumption by 25% and CO2 emissions by 20% compared to a conventional air-fuel furnace.

“Glasstec 2024 was a very dynamic exhibition and conference. We presented the milestones, challenges and results of our project at Verallia, as well as focused on our hybrid technology to achieve reduced environmental impact along with operational flexibility at the Glass Trend sessions of the Glasstec conference,” adds Andrew Reynolds, Business Development Director at Fives Stein Ltd., a subsidiary of Fives.

Glasstec will reopen its doors in Dusseldorf, Germany on October 20-23, 2026.
