Advancing low-emission reheating at Nervacero
Enhanced furnace efficiency
Nervacero, a long-standing partner of Fives, wanted to modernize its walking hearth reheating furnace. The furnace was originally supplied by Fives in the 1970s, and it has undergone regular upgrades over the years.
The project will have a significant impact on the furnace’s roof, walls, and waste gas duct. One of the main upgrades is the complete redesign of the recuperator, which will increase the temperature of the combustion air. These changes will significantly improve efficiency and reduce energy consumption, making the installation more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
The existing regenerative burners will be replaced with ultra-low NOx AdvanTek® burners. The flue, air, and gas circuits will be modified to accommodate the new operating characteristics of the burners.
Additionally, the furnace layout will be optimized to maximize available space around the furnace.
Project overview
The project is progressing on an ambitious timeline. Detailed engineering has begun, and procurement activities are underway. These initial steps are laying the groundwork for a successful upgrade and smooth execution, driven by strong collaboration between the Nervacero and Fives teams.
