Repeated Alternative fuel success in lime application

After three years of experience and feedback with a 60 MW Pillard ROTAFLAM®, a second identical burner has been bought by a major player in the lime industry for one of their plants in Germany.

 

In the future, up to 10 tons/hr of alternative solid fuel will substitute the presently used lignite on each of the four rotary kilns. Additionally, waste oil and natural gas may complete the fuel mix.

Taking into account the customer target to remain very flexible with the fuels and to handle the changes very easily, the adjustments of the Pillard ROTAFLAM® burner have been automized to reproduce the already experienced combustion conditions for each different fuel mix.

Fives teams solved two major challenges for this project:

The first one was the integration of all the control system into the customer DCS which was performed smoothly thanks to a tight collaboration between both parties.

The second was the supply of a tailormade compact burner system designed to fit a very narrow space in the kiln hood area.
