Fives takes part at the XXXII ISSCT Congress in Colombia
Fives FCB will be exhibiting at the XXXII International Society of Sugar Cane Technologists (ISSCT) Congress, held from August 22 to 31, 2025 in Cali, Colombia. This major event brings together cane sugar producers, researchers and technology providers from the world to explore the latest innovations in the industry. This edition marks a historic milestone—100 years since the founding of the ISSCT.
The International Society of Sugar Cane Technologists (ISSCT) is an association of scientists, technologists, managers, institutions and companies/corporations concerned with the technical advancement of the cane sugar industry and its co-products. It has a long history of promoting research and innovation in the sugar cane industry. The International Congress is a forum for researchers to present their latest studies and findings, for professionals to share their experiences, and for the industry to gather to discuss emerging challenges and opportunities.
Fives will be present on two exhibition spaces:
- A shared booth with its local partner COLSUGAR (Booths 64–65)
- The Business France Pavilion, alongside other French companies promoting sustainable industrial solutions
A technical presentation focused on energy efficiency and biomass preservation
As part of the technical program, Louise CAMP, Process Engineer at Fives FCB, will present a paper titled: “new trends toward energy savings and cogeneration of electricity for the cane sugar industry”.
Her presentation will highlight how cane sugar factories can significantly reduce their internal energy consumption—both steam and electricity—in order to preserve bagasse for electricity cogeneration. This approach not only improves energy self-sufficiency but also creates new revenue streams through electricity export to the grid.
The paper presents a suite of innovative solutions developed by Fives to support this transition, including:
- Heavy-duty in-line shredders and MillMax® for reduced electricity consumption during cane preparation and extraction
- Advanced Falling Film Evaporation systems with additional effects and optimized bleeding to lower steam demand
- Continuous Vacuum Horizontal Crystallizers, enabling higher crystallisation yields without extra steam consumption
- High-Brix melters to improve crystallisation station efficiency rducing the water consumption
These technologies enable sugar producers to improve their OPEX, optimize the thermal efficiency of the plant, reduce their overall environmental footprint (energy and water).

Throughout the congress, Fives will be present at Booths 64-65, in partnership with Colsugar, our valued representative in Colombia. Together, we will showcase a wide range of technologies designed to optimize energy use and enhance process performance in cane sugar factories.
Fives will also be present on the Pavilion France, coordinated by Business France, alongside other French companies committed to supporting the sugar industry with innovative and sustainable solutions.
