Fives supports Viaposte’s growth and operational excellence with an advanced automation solution

Viaposte's new handling system in Lezennes equipped with Fives' cross-belt technology

Fives has successfully completed a new automation project aimed at strengthening the logistics operations and supporting long-term growth of La Poste, at the Viaposte initiative. The project is part of a long-standing collaboration with the La Poste Groupe and GeoPost, initiated in 1998 and now including more than 70 successful achievements.

The rationale behind the investment

Driven by sustained growth in parcel volumes and rising customer expectations for speed, reliability and service quality, Viaposte decided to invest in a new automation project to further strengthen its operational capabilities for last miles distribution.

The goal of the investment was to increase throughput, improve process efficiency, ensure scalability for future volume peaks and maintain high service levels.

Why Viaposte chose Fives

After a thorough evaluation process, Viaposte selected Fives, building on a long-standing track record of successful solutions implemented and validated across the Group over the years. Fives’ proven expertise within the La Poste Group, combined with its collaborative approach and strong project management capabilities, was a decisive factor in the decision.

“Fives showed a strong performance, ability to follow our needs and standards and turn them into an effective and competitive solution. Their expertise and commitment were essential to the project’s success”, comments Anne Bussière, Team Projects Leader at Viaposte.

The implemented solution

The solution features a GENI-Belt sorter, integrated with three GENI-Feed induction lines and 210 wooden accumulation chutes, all designed to enhance operational efficiency and improve working conditions.

Thanks to their sound-absorbing properties, wooden chutes help reduce noise levels, creating a more comfortable working environment for operators. Each accumulation chute can hold an average of 30 parcels, allowing operators to manage multiple destinations simultaneously. This set up enables a small team to supervise a large number of exits, supporting a more efficient workforce organization while maintaining high operational performance.
The overall system enables Viaposte to handle higher volumes-up to 6,500 items per hour, with greater accuracy and efficiency, while providing the scalability and flexibility needed to support future operational growth.

“Fives perfectly knows how to manage technology, performance, simple design and customer take care. Always nice to work with Fives and ready for the next project!”, added Pascal Cesari, CTO in Viaposte.

Project execution and collaboration

The project was delivered through close cooperation between Viaposte and Fives across all phases-from system design and engineering to installation, testing and commissioning.
The teams worked in close alignment to ensure seamless implementation and on-time delivery.

Fives’ structured project management approach and on-site support enabled a fast ramp-up to full productivity. The successful completion of this project confirms Fives’ position as a trusted partner for La Poste Groupe, GeoPost and Viaposte, supporting their ongoing transformation and growth in an increasingly demanding logistics market.
