We are proud to announce the publication of our article in the July 2025 edition of World Cement, a leading international magazine in the cement industry. Titled “Decarbonising with dual dynamics”, the article highlights the innovative solutions developed by Fives to support cement manufacturers in their transition toward more sustainable production.
For over 20 years, Fives has taken a comprehensive approach to decarbonisation, combining energy efficiency, clinker substitution, and more recently, carbon capture technologies.
Two drivers for low-carbon clinker production
The article focuses on two complementary and promising strategies:
- Tail-end carbon capture using amine solvents, a flexible solution that can be integrated into existing plants.
- Oxyfuel combustion with flue gas recirculation (FGR), an advanced technology that increases CO₂ concentration in flue gases, simplifying its capture and purification.
Modular solutions for a tailor-made energy transition
Thanks to tests conducted on our rotary kiln pilot and CFD modelling, we have demonstrated that oxyfuel combustion does not alter clinker quality while improving heat transfer and reducing specific fuel consumption. The article presents two integration scenarios—partial and full—with a detailed techno-economic assessment.
