Fives to support National OilWell Varco expanding in Saudi Arabia
In January 2019, Fives was awarded with a major contract for designing and supplying Giddings & Lewis large dimension machining sytems - an MC 1600 horizontal boring mill and two (VTC 1600 and VTC 2000) vertical turning centers with adjustable rails, and associated services, as part of the construction of NOV's oil rig construction plant in Saudi Arabia.
National OilWell Varco (NOV), an American multinational company specializing in the supply and operation of drilling systems for the oil industry, was already familiar with Giddings&Lewis technologies in the United States but was looking for a supplier capable of installing the equipment in Saudi Arabia and providing all after-sales services locally.
Fives' presence in the Middle East, its numerous references in the fields of combustion and cryogenics, its long experience in large projects in the cement and aluminium industries, and the presence of technical teams based in Bahrain, only two hours away from the future plant, convinced NOV of the Group's capability to guarantee optimal long-term operation.
