Memorandum of Understanding Signed to Advance a Pioneering Circular Economy Project in Tula, Hidalgo
Within the framework of the recent visit of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, to Mexico, and in alignment with the presidential initiative on circular economy and sustainability, the participating companies CEMEX REGENERA, CONCRETOS SUSTENTABLES y FIVES announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the purpose of establishing a framework for cooperation aimed at developing innovative solutions for the sustainable management of construction and demolition waste in Mexico.
The objective of the agreement is to conduct a technical, economic, and financial study to evaluate the implementation and financing of a recovered concrete upcycling facility at the Circular Economy Industrial Park in Tula, Hidalgo. Leveraging our FCB Rhodax® technology, the plant will enable the liberation and classification of its three components – aggregates, sand, and cement paste — on a qualitative way to further enable their complete reintegration into new concrete.
This collaboration represents a strategic step toward the transition to a circular economy within the construction sector, by promoting technologies that contribute to reducing final waste disposal and enhancing the value of materials currently considered waste, in accordance with the environmental policy of the President Claudia Sheinbaum.
Mathias Dechelette, Regional Director of Fives Group expressed confidence that this innovative project will demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of new concrete recycling models in Mexico, fostering more sustainable industrial development aligned with national and international policies on decarbonization and waste management.
The study will commence in the coming weeks, and its findings will serve as the basis for decision-making regarding the implementation phase of the flagship project in the state of Hidalgo.
A group of French and Mexican business leaders gathered in Mexico City to sign significant agreements in the field of sustainability.
