On Thursday September 26, 2024, Fives Liné Machines, a designer and manufacturer of large-scale machine tools, which is based in Granby since 1977, officially inaugurated its fully modernized premises. This sustainable renovation project is designed to support the company's growth and to offer its employees a more ergonomic, modern and environmentally-friendly working environment.

Inauguration of Fives Liné Machines' modernized premises in Granby, Canada

Fives Liné Machines, specializing in the design and installation of large-scale machine tools, established in Granby under the name Liné Canada in 1977, in order to expand the machine tool offering of a French company to meet the growing demand for precision machines in North America. The street bordering the company even bears the name of the founder's father, André Liné.

Today, Fives Liné Machines boasts a broad portfolio of high-precision machining solutions tailored to meet the industrial challenges of various markets such as aerospace, defense, rail, shipbuilding, energy, transportation and heavy equipment.

The company exports over 90% of its Franco-Canadian technology to the United States, thanks to the NAFTA free-trade agreement between the USA and Canada.

An ambitious modernization project carried out as part of a sustainable approach

The renovation project, which began at the end of 2023, was carried out with the support of Fives industrial engineering group, to which Fives Liné Machines belongs. It represents a total investment of $2.7 million, including $0.5 million for thermal insulation of offices in two buildings.

To further reduce its carbon footprint, the company has begun its energy transition by reducing its natural gas consumption and gradually switching to hydroelectric power, with a target of 100% within five years.

Thanks to partnerships with contractors involved in the project, such as GERATEK, Fives Liné Machines was able to recycle 2 tons of construction materials and 31 tons of concrete. The company also chose to upcycle 5.6 tons of equipment such as furniture and IT hardware, by organizing donations to employees, schools and local associations.

Quality of life at work was another key factor in the specifications, to provide the 140 employees of 12 different nationalities with bright, ergonomic premises and common rooms.

“Over and above the environmental aspect, this modernization project was an opportunity to rethink our workspaces, which are now more user-friendly and ergonomic, to offer our employees a better quality of life at work and facilitate teamwork. It illustrates our commitment to the industry we love: a modern, attractive and low-carbon industry. These completely renovated premises mark a new stage in the history of Fives Liné Machines, and strengthen our foothold in Granby”, explains Pasquale CALÒ, Managing Director of Fives Liné Machines.

The event was attended by prestigious guests and employees, key players in the success of Fives Liné Machines

The inauguration ceremony took place on Thursday September 26 in the presence of all Fives Liné Machines employees, whom Managing Director Pasquale Calò thanked for their daily commitment.

Numerous institutional guests, customers, partner organizations, schools and universities were also present, including Julie Bourdon, Mayor of Granby, and Denis Mercier, Deputy General Manager of Fives Group.

The event included a tour of the 6,700 sqm-workshop and design offices, and speeches from prestigious guests.

Michel Miraillet, French Ambassador to Canada, who was absent due to the visit of the President of the French Republic to Quebec at the same time, emphasized in a video message the role of Fives, an important player in the economic life of the province, in the great history that has united Canada and France for centuries.
