Fives to revamp PostNord sorting systems in Sweden

Fives was recently awarded a new contract by PostNord to revamp two sorting systems at its Göteborg and Malmö distribution centers in Sweden.

Both existing installations are equipped with cross-belt based solutions supplied by Fives in 1996, and still in operation after 20 years in operations. The two sorting systems handle small packets weighing from 50gr up to 10kg, with a maximum capacity of 10,000 pph.

Thanks to its strong long-term relationship with PostNord in Sweden, Fives has brought to the customer the consultancy service to identify the critical system components to be upgraded.

The contract includes the update of the scales to the “legal for trade” certification, the replacement of scanner tunnels with new camera systems also capable to read the 4-State codes, the upgrade of the fieldbus communication to Profibus, and the replacement of computers and sorter controls.

When completed in October 2016, the revamping will extend the life of both installations to further 5 to 10 years.
