Fives to prepare Genoa Airport’s Baggage Handling System to Support medium term Traffic Forecasts

Genoa Cristoforo Colombo International Airport served over 1.5 Million passengers per year in 2019, after being rated #1 airport in Italy in 2018 in terms of traffic growth.

Genoa airport has launched an Airport Development Plan which includes a series of infrastructure measures aimed at satisfying future air traffic requirements.

One primary goal of this plan is to upgrade the HBS (Hold Baggage Screening) system to meet the current ECAC Standard 3 regulations of security and expand the existing system in preparation of 2023 traffic forecasts.

Aeroporto di Genova S.p.A selected Fives to enlarge the baggage handling system that supports the departure area. Fives will supply an automated system comprised of conveyors and a carousel for flight make-up.

The project has been scheduled into phases: including the dismantle of the existing system, installation of the new equipment, and integration of the latest generation x-ray machines.

The project was awarded to Fives due to our responsiveness and ability to meet the customer’s urgent modernization needs.

The system installation will begin in November 2020.
