Fives at L’Usine Extraordinaire (The Extraordinary Factory), a unique experience to “change preconceived ideas about industry”

From November 22 to 25, Fives took part in L’Usine Extraordinaire, a unique public event in the heart of Paris, organized by FACE, the Fondation Agir Contre l’Exclusion (Foundation Against Exclusion). Beneath the nave of the Grand Palais, Fives joined numerous representatives from the French industrial, educational, associative and political spheres to reveal the factory of today - a modern, connected, inspiring factory turned towards the future and rooted in the regions.

The program included an extraordinary, immersive, behind the scenes trip through a “living factory” which brought together four different areas - “Inventing”, “Manufacturing”, “Connecting” and “Sharing” - conferences, encounters, events and expert testimonials. Over 40,000 visitors, including 10,000 school children from 55 French departments took part in this amazing industrial adventure. “The greatest reward was the look of wonder in the children’s and teenagers’ eyes when they discovered the wonderful world of factories these past few days. I think we may have sparked quite a few vocations,” said Bruno Grandjean, President of the Usine Extraordinaire Foundation.

Setting out to share a positive message about factories, Fives presented an automated laser welding line in the “Manufacturing” area. The line was designed and developed for the carmaker Renault at the Fives Machining factory in Saint-Laurent-Les-Tours, in the Lot department. This factory is a made in France center for industrial excellence specializing in high-powered laser applications to design and produce industrial equipment in the domain of laser welding or 3D metal printing.
