First green anode successfully produced at BALCO

Fives teams have reached a major milestone with the successful production of the first green anode at the BALCO Green Anode Plant in Korba, India. This achievement marks a decisive step in the extension of BALCO’s smelter and the start of a new chapter for the project delivered by Fives.

Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO) selected Fives for the turnkey supply of a Green Anode Plant (GAP) with a capacity of 42 tph, as part of the expansion of its aluminum production facilities.

From engineering to commissioning, the project reflects Fives’ ability to deliver complex industrial installations while meeting performance, quality and safety requirements in a demanding environment.

Strong collaboration across teams
The project has been carried out through close collaboration between Fives Solios, Fives India and KEC International, combining global expertise and strong local execution:

  • Fives Solios was responsible for the process engineering, general layout, the supply of the main process equipment as well assistance to the customer during commissioning.

  • Fives India handled the local procurement of proprietary and process equipment and ensured on-site supervision.

  • KEC International, an Indian engineering and construction company, delivered the detailed engineering, steel structure fabrication, civil works, as well as construction, erection and pre-commissioning activities.

This collective effort enabled the teams to move steadily forward, milestone after milestone, toward first production.

More than a First Anode: a human achievement

Producing the first green anode is always a symbolic and meaningful moment, for the customer and for all teams involved. At BALCO, this first anode represents much more than the start of production. It is the result of months of hard work, intense collaboration and the ability to overcome unexpected challenges.

Whether on site in Korba or in offices around the world, the teams demonstrated resilience, commitment and a strong team spirit throughout the project. Their dedication made it possible to reach this milestone.

This first anode is just the beginning of a new operational journey, the teams are already mobilised to support the client in improving reliability, optimisation and ramp-up to production.
