Accelerate the decarbonization of glass packaging with Verallia & Fives at ALLICE Congress

Verallia, the world's third largest producer of glass packaging for food and beverages, and Fives will jointly present their breakthrough achievements in electric melting at ALLICE 2025 Congress in Paris, France, from September 23–24, 2025.

The ALLICE Congress, « Decarbonising industry: ramping up for 2030 and beyond! », organized by the Alliance Industrielle pour la Compétitivité et l’Efficacité Énergétique, will highlight industrial decarbonization strategies, innovative technologies, and collaborative roadmaps toward 2030.

Hubert De La Forest De Divonne, Product Manager at Fives Stein, and Frédéric Léon, France Batch & Furnace Manager at Verallia France, will co-present a case study on the world’s first all-electric furnace for glass bottles, inaugurated at Verallia’s Cognac plant.

Location: Cité internationale Universitaire de Paris, France

Date: Sept 24, 11h – 12h30, Session 5.1

This pioneering project, based on Prium® E-Melt technology developed by Fives, marks a major milestone for glass decarbonization:

  • 100% electric furnace for flint and extra-flint glass
  • 180 tonnes/day capacity, equivalent to 300,000 bottles
  • - 60% CO₂ emissions compared to traditional gas furnaces
  • A major solution, with the next step targeting 300 tonnes/day

The presentation will detail the process behind this global first, the scale-up strategy, and the operational results from Cognac. It’s a bold step toward low-carbon glass manufacturing and a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation.
