Fives has once again beaten all production records to supply its customer (a leader in ethylene production) with a replacement cold box and limit the downtime of its plant in Qatar.
Outstanding efforts by Fives teams, strict management of all supply, design and production stages, as well as improved organization of subcontractor follow-up were key to this success. The cold box was designed in under 5 months at the Golbey workshops in France, and installed during a scheduled maintenance shutdown at the site, as requested by the customer. The equipment operates in line with its expectations, and it was highly satisfied with Fives’ ability to manage emergency replacement projects.
The customer then asked Fives experts to service a second cold box already on site. The results showed that there were no leaks, and Fives teams carried out preventive maintenance actions to improve control over its equipment to avoid future outages.
Fives has over 60 years of expertise in the design, production, installation and maintenance of cold boxes. Cold boxes are self-supporting structures which contain plate-fin heat exchangers, as well as other cryogenic equipment. They offer protection against bad weather, but above all heat insulation. Fives has supplied over 350 cold boxes worldwide to natural gas and industrial gas treatment plants, as well as petrochemical plants.
