FIVES CONFIRMS ITS LEADERSHIP IN BREAKTHROUGH INNOVATIONS WITH ITS ULTRA-FAST STEEL COIL TEMPERING TECHNOLOGY
REDUCING OPERATING COSTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Fives has unveiled its latest breakthrough technology, Non-Oxidizing Wet FlashCooling®, which will completely change the way that steelmakers view steel production. This technology, installed on a hot-dip galvanizing line in the United States, allowed the steelmaker to produce third-generation advanced high-strength steel directly on the galvanizing line. This helps avoid the need to route steel strips to a continuous annealing line and to coat them afterwards. This leads to a significant reduction in:
- OPERATING COSTS LINKED TO STEEL PROCESSING;
- ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT, as this technology helps reduce liquid effluents linked to pickling and energy consumption.
Non-Oxidizing Wet FlashCooling® technology is based on spraying an aqueous solution containing additives intended to prevent strip oxidation.
Highly flexible, it allows the production of all coated steels, with higher productivity than standard technologies. The exclusive features of this Fives technology include:
- Outstanding cooling performance up to 1,000°C/s
- Control of all key process parameters: cooling speed, final strip temperature, uniform crosswise strip temperature
- Stable production in terms of strip mechanical properties and flatness
