Clinker production is responsible for the vast majority of CO2 emissions in cement production.
Fives has developed a complete suspended clay calcination solution to produce artificial pozzolan, a low-carbon substitute for clinker, and THUS REDUCE CEMENT’S CARBON FOOTPRINT BY UP TO 40%.
The solution is highly flexible due to the choice of the flash process, which allows it to:
- Process a wide variety of clay mixtures, giving customers the opportunity to USE A LARGER NUMBER OF RAW MATERIALS from quarries;
- Maximize the use of alternative fuels, a KEY FACTOR FOR THE SMALLEST POSSIBLE CARBON FOOTPRINT;
- Optimize the calcination temperature and thus SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE ENERGY CONSUMPTION of the production line compared to a rotary kiln solution, while guaranteeing IMPROVED CONTROL OF THE PRODUCT QUALITY.
To support its customers well in advance of their project, Fives carries out feasibility studies and material identification. For this purpose, Fives has an industrial pilot - an exact, smaller replica of the industrial solution, which is a reliable predictive model of the future production tool.
The Fives flash clay calcination system includes a patented color control process, and allows:
- up to 40% reduction of CO2 emissions compared to traditional cements
- precise control of the calcination temperature for an excellent quality finished product in terms of hydraulic reactivity
- direct and precise control of the calcined clay color
- lower energy consumption and maintenance requirements compared to rotary kilns
- greater flexibility in terms of fuels
