Fives continues to supply reheating furnaces to CELSA Group
The first order is for a new Stein Digit@l Furnace® to be installed in the CELSA France plant located in the municipalities of Boucau and Tarnos, New Aquitaine region. This plant is specialized in the production of steel billets from the recovery of scrap. The walking beam furnace with 120 ton-per-hour capacity will reheat billets of different sections and length to serve a new rolling mill. The Stein Digit@l Furnace® features the best available technology, including complete digital on/off control and heat curve control for optimum combustion, as well as AdvanTek® burners. AdvanTek® burners is a steelmakers’ choice for a green footprint and reduced energy consumption, with the lowest NOx emissions – less than 50 ppm. Commissioning is scheduled in autumn 2020.
The second project covers revamping of the existing Stein Digit@l Furnace® at CELSA 4 Barcelona, Spain. The existing walking beam furnace of 250 tons per hour capacity is designed to reheat beam blanks for a medium section mill located in Castellbisbal. The revamping aims to extend a product range by processing larger and heavier beam blanks from the original weight of 7.5 tonnes to 10.5 tonnes. The project includes replacement of mechanical equipment: new roller tables, kick in and kick off machines on the charging and discharging side together with all the ancillary equipment. Fives is also responsible for the modifications of electrical equipment. The work will start in summer 2020, during scheduled maintenance shutdown of the plant.
New contracts will bring the total reference of Stein Digit@l Furnace® to more than 100 for hot strip mills, plate mills and long products.
