Solios Thermal has been awarded a contract by Samsung Engineering for the supply of two side well furnaces for the Can Recycling Unit of the Ma’aden Alcoa Aluminium Rolling Mill.
This new contract follows the order in 2010 from Ma’aden Alcoa Aluminium, for the turnkey supply of fifteen casthouse furnaces for their primary Aluminium Smelter.
Samsung Engineering Company is the EPC contractor responsible for the complete Rolling Mill plant, which forms part of the first phase of the fully integrated aluminium complex built by Ma’aden Alcoa Aluminium at Raz Al Khair in Saudi Arabia. The Rolling Mill plant is a secondary aluminium facility and will be one of the most technically advanced worldwide.
The Solios Thermal contract consists of the supply for two static side-well furnaces each with 120 tons capacity. These furnaces differ in operation and design to the main smelter furnaces in that they are melting solid aluminium, and consist of two chambers, with metal being pumped between the chambers with an electromagnetic pump. The furnaces will predominantly be used to remelt decoated aluminium scrap. The molten metal from these furnaces will be transported in metal crucibles to the main smelter casthouse.
This key contract strengthens Fives Solios’s position as equipment supplier for this prestigious aluminium complex being built in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
