The manufacture of green anodes requires a certain number of operations of mixing, crushing, reheating, and moulding which emit dust and pollutants in large quantity. The anodes paste preparation process and forming stage produce large quantities of pollutants in the form of coke dust, pitch fumes and polycyclic organic matters (POMs). These pollutants need to be captured to maintain good ambient air condition and an adapted treatment:
The coke purification system that Fives Solios has developed since 1975 consists of a unique know-how in capturing pitch fumes, based on:

Dry Scrubbing system using the coke fines readily available in the carbon plant to absorb the pitch fumes in a venturi reactor and returning the enriched coke fines to the anode paste production.
Capturing the injected fines by a highly approved Sonair pulse jet filter

Fives Solios developed
EOLIOS, the Solution for a clean paste plant, in order to conform to the increasingly strict environmental standards in regards to emissions and atmospheric pollutants, health safety and security. This technology is based on a combined dry-scrubbing and RTO, the Regenerative Thermal Oxider which practically destroys all traces of heavy tar.
To ensure the staff’s protection from these fumes, EOLIOS allows significant emission reduction of the anodes plant by obtaining today’s lowest required rates of PAH (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons).
