In 1998, RENEL (RENAMED CONEL, then TERMOELECTRICA) signed an agreement with the European Bank of Investment for the revamping of 2 boilers (no. 3 and 4) at Bucharest-South power station. Such financial help was conditional upon the compliance with the new Directive concerning the emissions of nitrogen oxydes (NOx).
The project was awarded to ALSTOM POWER (France) who sub-contracted the replacement of the burners to Fives Pillard.
The general architecture of the combustion system was developed with ALSTOM Power Boilers, who also:
checked the water steam circulation conditions in the boiler tubes to ensure the performance and reliability of the plant,
carried out the necessary modification where the new burners were fitted : pressurized parts and combustion air channels in particular.
