Strategically positioned near Milan, SEA Milano Malpensa Airport is a major connection point between Southern and Western countries in Europe, handling approximately 50,000 bags per day.
Malpensa Airport Authority (SEA) selected the team made of Fives Cinetic and Elsag SpA to design and install the new Hold Baggage Screening and Early Baggage Storage.
Changing the configuration of the entire baggage handling sorting system, the original pusher technology has been improved through Fives Cinetic’s SBIR cross belt sorter technology. The prime factor in SEA selecting the SBIR sorting system is its inherent ability to accumulate early bags and to screen bags in a small footprint layout while improving overall productivity of the system.
The HBS and EBS systems are subdivided into two areas: North and South covering an overall area of about 7700 sqm. Core of both the HBS and the EBS systems are 4 Fives Cinetic’s SBIR MD-BH sorters. Bags are loaded onto the SBIR MD-BH sorters by means of Fives Cinetic’s High Performance Induction Lines.
