On the site of the existing factory there has been a manufacturing facility for approximately 200 years. It was started by the Barrett family, and until 1932 it was the home of iron founders, wheelwrights, millwrights and general engineers serving the growing textile industry of Lancashire and Yorkshire.
In 1932, under the name of John Lund Limited (Trade Mark "Precimax"), the Company turned to the manufacture of Precision Grinding Machines, and later Fine Boring Machines were also designed and manufactured under the ownership of Clapham Brothers of Keighley. This business developed and flourished, with customers World wide and, in 1958, was acquired by Landis Tool Company of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, USA.
