OMK (PJSC « Vyksa Steel works ») is one of the leading Russian steel producers in the energy, transport and industry sector. With a view to increase its production for offshore pipes in the oil and gas sector, OMK awarded in March 2007, the contract with SMS Siemag for the supply of the Plate Mill 5000 to be installed in a new Vyksa plant near Nyzhniy Novgorod, the 4th largest city in Russia.
In December 2007, Fives Stein has been chosen by SMS and OMK to supply the two 200t/h Digit@l Furnace® with charging, discharging machines and roller tables. These furnaces are designed for two-row charging of slabs for plate production and one-row charging of pre-rolled slabs.
The first hot slab was discharged from walking beam furnace No1 on September 30th, after two years of engineering and equipment manufacturing, one year of installation and four months of commissioning. The success of the execution of this contract is the result of a perfect collaboration within Fives Stein Group : Fives Stein France was leader of the consortium, Fives Stein Shanghai had a significant scope through engineering and equipment supply, Fives Stein India Projects was involved in the heating program development and commissioning and Fives Stein Vostok supplied the local assistance and administrative support. The first hot slab of furnace No2 was discharged by early November. The hot commissioning and fine tuning will continue until February 12.
