Flash Cooling® and rapid cooling
A revolutionary technology of ultra rapid cooling with high hydrogen content which has proven its efficiency and advantages in industrial operation, particularly low gas impact on the strip and low power consumption.
This technology is mainly dedicated to the production of new high-strength steels for automotive applications and steel grades with improved properties for packaging applications.
More than 9 installations have already been equipped with this type of cooling!

Our ultra rapid cooling technology can be installed in new annealing / galvanizing lines and in existing lines to replace existing zones.
SALZGITTER – Germany, first hot-dip galvanizing line whose digital furnace is equipped with a Flash Cooling® section with cooling rates of more than 150°C/s.
POSCO – South Korea, the two vertical lines CGL 5 and CGL6 commissioned in 2005 and 2006 are equipped with a Flash Cooling® for automotive sheets.
After-pot cooling
To respond to the new market needs, Fives Stein continues its research in order to develop cooling sections of annealing lines or galvanizing lines and further increase the strip cooling performance without creating any instability. This technology is now installed in our lines.

Burners
A new burner has been developed for direct flame preheating furnaces of galvanizing lines. Test conducted in collaboration with Gaz de France showed a reduction of NOx emissions by nearly 50 % compared to the former burner generation. With the new burner design it is also possible to decrease the flame temperature, to obtain a more uniform flame in terms of temperature and a better recirculation of combustion products.
Radiant tubes
Fives Stein’s R&D department calculates the temperature profiles and thermomechanical stresses in radiant tubes. The results are validated in our test centre. In our test centre we also optimise the operation of radiant tube burners, for instance with a gas whose composition is equivalent to the customer’s.

Furnace rolls
Thanks to a dynamic model integrated to the Level 2 optimisation system, hot profiles of rolls are calculated in line according to the operating conditions. With this model it is possible to significantly reduce heat and cool buckles caused by the roll thermal distortion.
