Silicon Smelters (Spanish Group Ferro Atlántica) has just ordered to Fives FCB a Rhodax® 600 HP with its associated TSV™ 800 HF for its new silicon powder crushing plant. The installation is located at Polokwane (South Africa). It produces silicon metal by fusion and reduction of quartz in a light-arc furnace.
The Rhodax® will treat silicon metal crushed at -60 mm in closed circuit with a 500 µm mesh. The TSV™ will remove the filler -50 µm from screen undersize. Coarse particles rejected from the TSV™ will thus constitute the valuable product (+50 - 500 µm) used in photovoltaic applications.
Total output of fine product will be 4 tph and the adjustment of the machine will be optimized to find the best compromise output/fillers production. Flexibility of the Rhodax® adjustments was a decisive advantage for this new installation.
