Optic fiber drawing by induction

Fiber optic production

Fives Celes drawing furnaces are used to heat pre-formed quartz with a maximum diameter of 80 mm to a temperature of 2,200°C followed by a continuous drawing process to produce fiber optics at as speed often exceeding 1,000 m/min.

Indirect induction heating using a graphite susceptor enables precise furnace control.
To protect the fiber and also prevent the crucible graphite from igniting, a neutral gas atmosphere (argon) is maintained in the chamber.

Thermal inertia is reduced to a minimum. The power consumed by the transistor converter lies generally between 25 and 50 kW for an operating frequency of approximately 15 kHz (CELES MP Product range).
