Induction heating is widely used for brazing. This because it can apply the heat required to melt the filler metal to a precise area. Furthermore, the concentration of power is such that this type of heating always results in considerable saving of time. Oxidation and structural or chemical changes in the treated parts are reduced to a minimum. Substantial energy savings are provided for medium and large production runs.
Power requirements are generally relatively low, i.e. from 6 to 100 kW. The Fives Celes M.O.S. transistors high frequency generator (CELES MP product range) is perfectly suited for this type of work. Various types of inductors are used (external, internal solenoids, pancake, pin-shaped inductors, etc.). Air-gaps are always very small and between 1.5 to 15 mm for most applications.
