Following the production of the first clinker on November 10th, 2009, the inauguration of the Thai Nguyen 4000 tpd cement plant took place on December 25th, 2009 in the presence of the Prime Minister and other Vietnamese government representatives.
The plant is located in the Quang Son commune near the city of Thai Nguyen, and about 100 km north of Hanoi. It is equipped with the most advanced technologies and processes developed by Fives FCB to reduce energy, water consumption, gas emissions and the carbon footprint.
The 4,000 tpd clinker burning line is running with a 3 piers Fives FCB rotary kiln, a 5-stage single line preheater as well as the Fives FCB Zero-NOx precalciner which has already demonstrated its ability to burn 100 % of low-volatile Vietnamese anthracite coal and to reduce NOx emissions and meet the most stringent environmental standards.
The 240 tph cement grinding plant is equipped with the Twin Horomill® technology consisting of two identical Horomill® grinding units operating simultaneously along with a large-sized TSV™ classifier. The Horomill® technology does not require any water injection, which is favourable to produce cement of high quality, and allows substantial energy savings compared to conventional mills, therefore reducing the annual operation costs of the cement plant.
In addition, the Twin Horomill® system enables the grinding plant to continue working at half capacity when one of the Horomill® is stopped for maintenance.
The contract for the Thai Nguyen plant included detailed studies for civil engineering works and steel structures, as well as the CIF delivery of the imported mechanical and electrical equipment of the whole cement plant, and the necessary supervision during its construction, erection and commissioning.
The commissioning and performance tests are being completed in early 2010.
