Innovation as a driving force "Fives' goal is to be a driver of sustainable industrial progress"

Sharing its customers concerns regarding sustainable development, the Group develops technologies to enable them to achieve, or even exceed, their objectives of reducing energy consumption and polluting emissions.
All development is based on the following five areas of progress:

Environmental quality
The developments to cut down on polluting emissions have been undertaken by the Group. One example is the burners developed and marketed under the Pillard brand, such as LONOxFLAM®, which allow manufacturers to achieve a significant reduction in NOx emission rates from their installations.

Energy consumption
Like other developments concerning all the markets in which the Group is actively involved, Digit@l Furnace® - the reheat furnace developped by Fives for the steel industry- can reduce energy consumption by more than 10% while improving the thermal homogeneity of products.

Flexibility to ensure a long future for industrial tools
The industrial tools of the future will be increasingly flexible. Fives focuses on developing process equipment providing optimal flexibility. These products, ranging from flexible modular washing machines for the automotive industry to the Horomill® grinding mills for the cement market, help manufacturers increase the adaptability of their processes and reduce their manufacturing times.

Safety: Ensuring personal safety, a key objective for Fives
Because ensuring personal safety is a major concern shared by Fives and its customers, the Group's companies take practical measures aimed at reducing the number of occupational accidents, particularly at work sites. Fives has earned a reputation for professionalism in this field and has been congratulated many times by its customers for its performance on work sites. The Aluminium division recently set, in particular, the record of four million on-site hours without any accident resulting in lost time. Another example is the Cement division, with regard to the contract for the Tula cement plant in Mexico. In the international press, Lafarge's Chief Executive Officer, Bruno Lafont, praised the exemplary execution of this contract, saying "The construction and commissioning of the plant have been a real success in terms of efficiency, safety and industrial performance; the factory was delivered four months ahead of the contractual deadline and beats all the group's records in terms of safety performance."

Economic performance: key component of the new equation
Our developments must remain competitive. One of Fives' major strengths is its skill in reconciling investment costs, lower energy consumption, reductions in polluting emissions, the flexibility of its equipment and/or systems and its ability to obtain supplies from low-cost countries.

Sharing our expertise "What customers look for in Fives is expertise"

T. Valot, Group Innovation Manager: "Fives largely owes its success to its technical expertise and its mastery of complex industrial processes. It is essential to preserve and pass on knowledge. The Group's companies have found various solutions to this key strategic need, such as a database comprising 3D models and a design guide setting out technical knowledge. These tools are particularly motivating for newly recruited engineers, who can call upon an impressive range of knowledge."
