Massimo, 38 – Production Manager Assistant at Fives Cinetic in Italy
1. Background Massimo, who is a qualified mechanics specialist, started his career at the Fives Group over 15 years ago as a production worker. Since then, he has held a variety of positions, taking on greater responsibility each time, and is now the production manager assistant at the Italian grinding subsidiary of Fives Cinetic. |
2. Could you say a few words about your role at Fives Cinetic Grinding’s machining department?
In the production workshop, I'm in charge of machine assembly, from the design phase through to the machining tests. When the equipment arrives on site, I look after the start-up, and I coordinate the work of the suppliers and subcontractors until the goods are delivered to the customer. I make sure that all specific requirements and technical recommendations are taken into account, and that the equipment’s performance meets the customer's specifications.
3. What are your main day-to-day responsibilities?
I'm required to have an overview of the orders being handled by the workshop at any given time, and I work closely with the production manager. In operational terms, I make sure that commissioning is carried out properly when the equipment is delivered on-site, and I see to it that the people who are going to use the machines receive the appropriate training. I also provide assistance in the event of technical problems or malfunctions.
4. Who are you in contact with?
I’m mainly in contact with the technical department and the project managers, and, of course, with the production manager, with whom I determine the workshop schedule and oversee the workers' tasks. I’m also in regular contact with the project managers who look after relations with customers, because I keep them up to date regarding production progress. I’m also in occasional contact with the quality, purchasing and logistics departments.
5. What would you say is the most attractive about your job?
First of all, I'd say that the variety of projects I have to manage on a daily basis makes my job interesting and keeps me alert as regards what’s going on around me. That inevitably means that I have to work with new people all the time, and in different environments, which teaches me a lot. It's important to take stock of things on a regular basis.
6. If you were asked to describe the Fives Group in a few words, and encourage new people to join us, what would you say?
In Fives Cinetic, for example, I work with efficient, highly-motivated colleagues developing high-tech products. Given the nature of our work, we have to keep constantly abreast of market changes and remain competitive at all times.
